For more than two years, I lived with debilitating chronic pelvic pain. You should know I’m someone who solves problems with the focus of a trained assassin, but I couldn’t solve my chronic pain. That’s because I was looking for help in all the wrong places. So the pain consumed everything. My sleep. My relationships. My sense of self.
I did what most people in chronic pain do. I went to one medical doctor after another. When that didn’t work, I went to a 30th-generation Chinese Medicine doctor who prescribed muddy herb tea and told me to give up coffee, sugar, and alcohol. I saw a medical intuitive who scanned my body and announced he could remove a systemic infection “energetically.”, which was a nice idea, but my pain persisted. I saw a naturopath who put me on way too many rounds of antibiotics that decimated my microbiome. I complied because I was sleep-deprived, depressed, and desperate.
Then, near the end of a meeting with a nutritionist, she casually mentioned a mind-body approach called Pain Reprocessing Therapy.
What I learned changed everything: chronic pain — whether pelvic pain, back pain, migraines, or fibromyalgia — often resists treatment because while it feels like it’s coming from the body, it’s actually being created by misfiring pain circuits in the brain. PRT uses specific psychological techniques to rewire those circuits and break the chronic pain cycle.
I trained in Alan Gordon, LCSW’s founding cohort — Alan is the founder of Pain Reprocessing Therapy and the author of The Way Out. I went on to train with Dr. Howard Schubiner, the internal medicine physician and leading expert on mind-body medicine Within six weeks of using PRT on myself, my pelvic pain vanished. It hasn’t returned.
I’ve spent the years since helping hundreds of clients heal from all kinds of chronic pain — the brain is remarkably creative in the symptoms it produces and the ways it tries to keep you safe. As a licensed clinical social worker based in Charleston, SC, I work with chronic pain clients in person and across the country.
I built Solve Chronic Pain™ because the work that gave me my life back shouldn’t be locked behind a $3,000 practitioner training or a year of private therapy. It should be in your hands.
